Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has requested Union Minister for Textiles Piyush Goyal to consider setting up of a Greenfield Mitra Park in the state of Odisha.
In a letter to Mr Goyal, the Union Minister said, in view of the immense potential in the sector in Odisha, such a park will go a long way in ensuring the success of Mission Purvodaya envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
AIR correspondent reports, Making a reference to the recent government announcement on setting up of seven MITRA or Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Park with the aim to help Indian companies emerge as global champions in the sector, the Union Minister said, Odisha is already famous for its Ikat type of weaving with various designs like Samabalpuri, Berhampuri and Bomkei.
Stating that apparel and textile including technical textile is one of the six focus sectors of the state, Mr Pradhan said, Odisha too has an industrial and apparel policy in place to ensure smooth clearances of projects.
In addition, Odisha is also one of the first states to have a dedicated Skill Development Authority to develop customised training programs for workers. Together with factors such as these, the Minister added, that Odisha is also well poised logistically and industrially to qualify for a MITRA park.
