In Nagaland, the candidate of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) S. Keoshu Yimchunger of Sangphur village was today declared elected uncontested to the Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency.
The seat felt vacant following the demise of sitting MLA and Adviser for Information and Public Relations, SCERT and Village Guards Toshi Wungtung.
Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland V. Shashank Shekhar today informed that only one nomination was received by the Returning Officer till the last date of nominations on 8th of October. He said the nomination paper was taken up for scrutiny on Monday and was found valid.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced the schedule for holding Bye-Election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 58-Shamator-Chessore seat on 30th of October.
It may be mentioned that Mr. S. Keoshu Yimchunger was the consensus candidate of the newly-formed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) which includes BJP and NPF.
With this, the total number of seats for NDPP has gone up to 21 in the 60-member house. Naga People’s Front (NPF) with 25 members, the single largest party in the state. The BJP has 12 elected members and there are two independent MLAs.
