Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has expressed happiness over BJP’s performance in Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad and Kalaburagi City Municipal Corporation elections. BJP has won a clear majority in the Belagavi Municipal Corporation ousting Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi. This is the first time in the history of the urban local body that elections were held on the basis of party affiliation. In Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, BJP has emerged as the single largest party and in Kalaburagi, a fractured mandate has come out.
Chief Minister Bommai has said that in Hubballi-Dharwad, their candidate will become the Mayor with the help of Independents and in Kalaburgi, the party will seek the support of JD(S) to get the post of Mayor. In Belagavi City Corporation, BJP won 35 out of 58 wards, Congress won 10 and Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi won just two wards.
In the 82 member Hubballi-Dharwad city Corporation, the BJP won 39 wards, Congress 33 and Independents six wards. For a simple majority, 42 is the required number. In the Kalaburagi Municipal Corporation election, out of 55 wards, BJP won 23 wards, Congress 27 and JD(S) in four wards.
