Be Monsoon-protected with these ‘must-have’ hygiene products

While monsoons have brought a much-needed respite from the sweltering heat, it is also a season that brings along a plethora of allergies and infections. Increased levels of humidity can prove to be a nightmare for your skin and health. Moisture during this season can be a huge attraction for uninvited germs and bacteria that can multiply even faster and wreak havoc in your homes. As the weather transitions towards nippy days but warm days, it can leave you feeling out of sorts and prone to a world of infections. Thus, it is important to take extra care.

To ensure complete and proper hygiene, here are a few ‘must-have’ products that will help you to stay healthy. Whether you are going out on a grocery run, or inching back to work, here is a quick checklist of the must haves.

Handwash: Hand hygiene is one of the basic hygiene measures that can help protect the entire family from getting sick. Your hands are the biggest carrier of germs and diseases. Instilling the habit of keeping your hands clean by frequently washing them helps curtail the spread of the flu virus.

Disinfectant: During monsoon, bacteria and viruses tend to usher on damp walls, roofs and ceilings that pose serious infections. Disinfectants are a must-have during such seasons to stay protected against them. Following up drying with a disinfection is a ritual one must adhere to. Wet carpets, damp couches, bathroom cabinets etc., should be sprayed with a formulation clinically proven to kill mold spores and fungi.

Antiseptic Liquid solutions: Infections from exposure of cuts, scratches and insect bites are common problems during monsoons. In order to minimize spread of infections, following a basic hygiene habit including washing arms and legs thoroughly after returning home must be followed. It is advised to use antiseptic liquids such as Savlon Antiseptic Disinfectant Liquid which has been proven 99.99% effective against germs like virus, bacteria, fungi and molds. It is also effective in protection against bacteria causing Leptospirosis – a waterborne bacterial infection that comes from animal urine and feces. Diluting the Savlon antiseptic liquid to clean body parts, especially hands and legs that have been exposed can help in prevention and protection. In addition to first aid, shaving and bathing, it can also be used for general disinfection such as for washing clothes, mopping floors etc.

Sanitisers: Monsoon season is a perfect time to sink in pleasure from an array of delectable street food and myriad fruits and vegetables. When such food items are kept uncovered, they turn out to be a breeding ground for germs. Moist surroundings, pollution, damp areas, soft and hard surfaces are also highly vulnerable to germs. When outdoors, keep a hand sanitizer in your bag and use it before and after meals or after touching shared surfaces. To prevent hands from drying, use moisturizing hand sanitizer.

Face Mask: Face masks are a necessity to safeguard yourself and the people around you not just from corona, but from regular infection causing allergens. Wearing a mask is a marker of you being a socially responsible citizen complying with your civic duty. There are a host of masks out there to choose from that can be as reflective of your personality and mood as your clothes. They have already become the hottest new statement-making accessory right now with renowned brands and designers curating them for you – so you have tons to choose from. Make sure they are three-layered and comfortable on the skin.

Apart from this, it is crucial to keep your home environment clean. The wet areas of the house are more predisposed to germs and bacteria. It is therefore important to keep these areas as dry as possible and to give them a good scrub at least twice a week. Lastly, pest control is critical during the season. A lot of pests will make their way into your home this season as they flee the wet outdoors. The general damp atmosphere also gives rise to aerial bacteria that settles on every surface. It is best to get a pest control service done for the house during the monsoon.
