Ten Indian Naval war veterans who took part in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh against Pakistan were honoured by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in India Muhammad Imran on Wednesday.
The contribution of the war veterans from across the country was acknowledged during a function hosted onboard the visiting Bangladesh Naval Ship (BNS) Somudra Avijan at Visakhapatnam.
Rear Admiral Tarun Sobti, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet was the Chief Guest of the event. Rear Admiral Jyotin Raina, CSO (ops) and other senior officers of the Eastern Naval Command were also present on the occasion.
BNS Somudra Avijan of Bangladesh Navy is on a 5-day visit to the Eastern Naval Command of India as part of Swarnim Vijay Varsha celebrations. It reached Visakhapatnam on Sunday, 3rd September to jointly celebrate the birth centenary year of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
